PALLEKELE: Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama took six wickets on debut to dismiss Bangladesh for 251 and give Sri Lanka a commanding lead Saturday on day three of the second Test.
The 22-year-old Jayawickrama s six for 92 bettered Upul Chandana’s record of six for 179 in 1999 when he won his first cap against Pakistan in Dhaka.
Jayawickrama, a replacement for injured Lasith Embuldeniya, has had a modest record in first class cricket, but impressed at Pallekele giving Sri Lanka a healthy 242-run first-innings lead. ....

PALLEKELE, Sri Lanka (AP) Sri Lanka is eyeing its first test win in more than a year at Bangladesh’s expense after finishing day three 259 runs ahead on Saturday.
Bangladesh, in reply to Sri Lanka’s 493-7 declared, was building nicely at 214-3 but collapsed to be all out for 251. Left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama triggered the turnaround and became the fifth Sri Lankan to claim a 5-for on debut as he took 6-92.
With a first-innings lead of 242, Sri Lanka was 17-3 at stumps in the second test. ....

KANDY: Praveen Jayawickrama’s six-wicket haul shaped Sri Lanka’s ascendancy over Bangladesh in the second Test in Pallekele on Saturday. The 22-year old left-arm spinner took the best figures for Sri Lanka on Test debut; his 6 for 92, including the big wickets of Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim. The stunning debut performance, which is better than Upul Chandana’s 6 for 179 against Pakistan in 1999, left the visitors trailing by 242 runs; Bangladesh losing their last seven wickets for 37 runs. Sri Lanka, however, didn’t enforce the follow-on and ended the day on 17 for 2, losing Lahiru Thirimanne and Oshada Fernando to Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam respectively. ....
