Katy Tur hosts coverage of national and international news, including breaking stories. Thats right, katy. You know, the president tweeted sunday in response to our article that he is not worried about don jr. , but people who have been talking to him on the phone say in fact he is worried about his son. He is worried about a lot of aspects related to this russia probe, which is getting closer and closer to him, to his family, to his associates, to his orbit. Its uncomfortable at the moment. There is some concern that he has that his son may be found to have violated the law somehow, you know. One person speculated maybe his son could have perjured himself in interviews at some point. I mean, the president just doesnt know at this point what could be in store for his son. It is a source of concern and its one of many things thats fueling what were seeing, which is a real public lashing by the president of mueller again and again and again, tweeting more than he has before about the wit
if the right to have an abortion is perceived to be at risk or reversed under the supreme court that could motivate democrats and the pro abortion rights side to the spectrum in a powerful way. we ll see. it would drive upturnout among anti-abortion supporters for what the court is doing after all of these years, a product with supreme court justices on the bench to get to this point. it will transform the debate. a much bigger, more resonant issue everybody will have to address. peter baker, you will be addressing more questions from me no doubt. appreciate that. coming up next, the life and legacy of a tv legend. we remember our much-loved colleague, willard scott.
in the democratic race who s saying i can win in red rural areas. the republicans have some issues here, but so do the democrats. it s easy to see a coastal democrat doing much worse than mccready. if you look at the district, if you just were running in the suburbs, democrats say yay. if you look at these rural areas, forget it. they are getting redder, more trump as we watch the suburbs get bluer, less trump. the interesting thing about north carolina 9, it s a mixture of ex-urban and rural and where democrats had their revolt in 2018 was in suburban. if they are able to drive upturnout in those areas, mccready did drive up more
fact that a lot of those migrants are still about a thousand miles away. take a listen to more of what president trump had to say yesterday. but i will say, these people were vicious. they broke through into mexico, throwing rocks and stones. this is the second caravan made up of some very tough young people. very tough. criminals in some cases. in many cases. they ll say, do you have proof? yeah, i have proof. they threw stones in the police s face. alex, the other part of president trump s strategy is targeting his base. so he is going to a lot of areas that are friendly to him to basically drive upturnout. today, he s going to be in with georgia and tennessee. worth noting, 33 million people voted early. that exceeds the total number of early voting from 2014. bottom line, voters are
swung away from trump in 2016. college educated, white color, a lot of suburban upscale neighborhoods. this swung away from trump in 2016. the rest of the district though up here, down here, complete opposite. how many times have we talked about blue collar white colleges? noncollege. 15 to 30 point gains for donald trump in 2016. so basically the name of the game for democrats is, hey, they want to drive upturnout in and around the columbia area. in these outlying areas if they do what barack obama did here four years ago, eight years ago, 2012, 2008, they could win the district. how worried are republicans about women in particular, and why could that be an opening, a weak spot for the president? well, they are worried, and for good reason. if republicans lose this race, it would be a tsunami warning for a blue wave in november.
