(File photo) MANILA - Possible surge of Covid-19 cases in the middle of May could be prevented through the administration of booster shots, a health official said Tuesday. In a televised Laging Handa public briefing, National Vaccination Operations Center chair Myrna Cabotaje noted the country's low booster shot rate may be a "contributory factor" in the possible surge next month. "Alam naman natin na very unpredictable itong ating Covid-19 virus, many things are evolving. Kailangang mag-additional shots iyong ating 18 years old and above para may layer of protection ang buong bansa (We know that the Covid-19 virus is very unpredictable, many things are evolving. Additional shots are needed for 18 years old and above for the country to have [additional] layer of protection)," she said. (PNA file photo) MANILA -The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said it will investigate and validate the claims of a forensic pathologist on the allegations of falsification of several death certificates that were issued to victims in the government's campaign against illegal drugs. PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo made the remark on the statements made by forensic expert Dr. Raquel Fortun. "On the part of the PNP, we have to also validate and see for ourselves kung ano-ano itong cases na ito (what these cases are). Mahirap magbigay ng general statement considering na hindi namin alam kung ano yung mga cases na nag undergo ng independent forensic examination nung grupo ni Dr. Fortun (It is difficult to issue general statements considering we don't know what are these cases that underwent independent examination by the group of Dr. Fortun). But nonetheless, we respect their independent findings," Fajardo told reporters during a press conference on Wednesd ....

In an online media forum, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said the application was submitted to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the fourth dose or second booster shots upon the recommendation of the Vaccine Experts Panel (VEP). "We will wait for the decision of the FDA on this, and then after that, we will discuss for possible implementation," she said. Earlier, VEP member Dr. Rontgene Solante said a fourth dose or second booster may only be needed by the senior citizens and the immunocompromised and not by the younger population. In the same forum, DOH-Technical Advisory Group member Dr. Edsel Salvana said the evidence on the need for a fourth dose is preliminary. "Even in the United States, w ....
(PNA file photo) MANILA-A health official on Friday said the government continues to track the number of daily Covid-19 cases despite the absence of daily case bulletin. "'Di nawala ang paggabay ng gobiyerno sa mga tao nang alisin ang daily case bulletin. nagbigay ito ng shift of mindset para makapag-focus sa mas importante na kailangan ng pansin, ang mga naglulubha at namamatay (When the daily case bulletin was removed, the government did not withdraw its guidance from the public. we gave a shift of mindset to focus on what's important, the severe [cases] and deaths)," Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said during an online media forum. Vergeire clarified the daily number of cases is still being recorded in the Department of Health's (DOH) Covid-19 tracker. "If ever, any firm or any academic institution doing, or anybody at all can still access the tracker and get the numbers there," she said. Earlier, a health reform advocate said the DOH mu ....
