DAVAO CITY - The Davao City Anti-Scam Unit warned residents on Friday against bogus wedding organizers as well as marriage packages being offered online. In a statement, Simplicio Sagarino, head of the city's anti-scam unit, urged the public to always check the business permits of the organizers from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) and the city's Business Bureau. Sagarino issued the warning after receiving reports that 30 couples were allegedly scammed by a Davao-based wedding organizer, who offered a package worth PHP65,000 that includes the venue, food, and the bride's gown. "These couples have paid almost full and more than 50 percent but no wedding took place. They should always check if they have permits from the BIR and Business Bureau because it is required to organize events," Sagarino said.
