UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque (File photo) MANILA - UniTeam senatorial candidate Harry Roque has strongly opposed any deployment of nuclear warheads in the Pacific region amid the raging Russia-Ukraine war. "Nuclear weapons are illegal because they are incapable of distinction under humanitarian law, as well as cause unspeakable suffering and destruction to mankind and the ecology," Roque, a former presidential spokesperson, said in a news release on Thursday. Roque is concerned about a proposed nuclear-sharing deal between the United States and Japan because it is against the United Nations (UN) Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). Adopted in 2017 and ratified in 2021, the TPNW is a legally binding instrument that prohibits and calls for the total elimination of nuclear weapons. While the Philippines is a state party to the UN treaty, both Japan and US are non-signatories. The TPNW also prohibits deploying nuclear weapons on national territory and ....
MANILA - The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) is studying the possibility of lifting the current policy on the use of face shields in the country, Malacanang said on Tuesday. In an online press briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the significant drop in the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) cases might persuade the IATF-EID to withdraw the requirement of wearing a face shield on top of a face mask. "I can confirm po na habang bumababa ang mga numero, eh pinag-uusapan na rin po kung ipagpapatuloy pa ang pagsusuot ng face shields (I can confirm that while the number [of Covid-19] infections continue to decline, we are discussing whether it is still necessary to wear face shields)," Roque, also acting as IATF-EID spokesperson, said. On Monday, the Philippines logged just 3,117 new Covid-19 infections, bringing the total case count in the country to 2,790,375. There are 43,185 active Covid-19 cases, 2,703,914 ....
(PNA photo by Jess Escaros Jr) MANILA - The Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management for the Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) has allowed the simulation voting in San Juan City on October 23, Malacanang said on Friday. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the IATF-EID, during its meeting on Thursday, approved the Commission on Elections' request on the one-day voting simulation exercises to ensure the Filipino voters' safety against the coronavirus disease 2019 in the May 9, 2022 elections. "Approved in the IATF's 144th meeting is the request of the Commission on Elections to conduct voting simulation exercises on October 23, 2021 in San Juan City," Roque, also acting as IATF-EID spokesperson, said in a press statement. The simulation exercise, Roque said, is "subject to conditions." On September 19, the Comelec also conducted a voting simulation in Pasay City. The Comelec earlier said the simulation was vital to "determine the policy ....
(File photo) MANILA - Arriving passengers who can avail of "green lanes" no longer need to observe a mandatory quarantine upon arrival in the Philippines, so long as they are fully vaccinated and test negative for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), Malacanang said on Wednesday. This developed after the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) updated the protocols for fully vaccinated individuals who are qualified for green lanes. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said new rules will take effect on Oct. 14. In a press statement, Roque said fully vaccinated foreign nationals must yield negative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test result within 72 hours before they depart from the country of origin. "Upon arrival, no facility-based quarantine will be required but the passenger is enjoined to self-monitor for any symptoms until the 14th day," Roque, who concurrently serves as IATF-EID spok ....
(File photo) MANILA - The quarantine period for fully vaccinated individuals who had direct exposure to coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) patients but do not exhibit symptoms has been shortened to seven days, Malacanang said on Friday. Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) approved Thursday the altered protocol for close contact with probable, suspect, and confirmed cases of Covid-19. The previous requirement ranged from 10 to 14 days. "Fully vaccinated individuals who are close contacts of probable and confirmed Covid-19 cases may undergo a seven-day quarantine period provided the individual remains asymptomatic for the duration of the seven-day period, with the first day being the date immediately after the last exposure," Roque, who also serves as IATF-EID spokesperson, said in a press statement. If a reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) test needs to be per ....
