MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday cited the need for a comprehensive database of foreign workers of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) to help address crime incidents hounding the industry. "Nakita namin na nahihirapan ang ating kapulisan (We have seen that our police is struggling) because we lack the records of the foreigners coming in our country to work at POGO companies here. We really need to engage (our) Bureau of Immigration so we would know who are the Chinese nationals coming to our country, as well as their classification," PNP chief, Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr., told reporters in a press briefing at their headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City. The PNP chief said it would also be better if they will be given a copy of records of Chinese nationals who come from other countries outside of China, as well as a list of legitimate POGO operators in the country. "So these are the things that we need to look into so that it will be easier ....
(File photo) MANILA - The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has made an official recommendation to place the National Capital Region (NCR) under the least restrictive Alert Level 1 beginning March 1 as Covid-19 cases continue to fall in the capital and most of the country. In a virtual briefing on Wednesday, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) officer-in-charge and General Manager Romando Artes said the recommendation has been sent to the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) and was unanimously agreed on by the MMC-composed of the 17 mayors in the NCR. "The resolution was already sent to the IATF earlier today. The basis of the MMC to ease the restrictions in the region is to open up the economy to ensure job generation," Artes said. He said the positivity rate in NCR has dropped to 4.64 percent, "way below" the 5 percent standard of the World Health Organization (WHO). The data he used was gathered by the Departmen ....
PNP chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos (File photo) MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) is analyzing cases to establish possible leads in the series of attacks targeting Bureau of Custom (BOC) employees. "It is unlikely that this is an isolated case since the first two incidents happened last December. Then, the next one was last January. Now, another BOC employee was shot dead. I am instructing our investigators to get all the necessary pieces of evidence," PNP chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos, said in a statement Sunday night. The latest of these attacks is the shooting of BOC information technology (IT) operator Gil Manlapaz in front of his house in Sta. Ana, Manila on the evening of February 11. Witnesses said the victim was approaching his vehicle when a man clad in a black jacket and white helmet shot him and fled. The attack happened just two days after a grenade attack in front of the house of Customs Deputy Commissioner Teddy Raval in Barangay Roxas District, Quezon Ci ....
(File photo) MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday urged Bar examinees and their supporters to refrain from holding send-off activities in compliance with health protocols amid the coronavirus pandemic. "We also discourage send-offs of the exam takers to avoid any gathering or convergence of people. We have to focus on how we can conduct the bar exams in a safe and peaceful way," PNP chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos said a statement, ahead of the conduct of the examinations on February 4 and 6. Carlos also reminded examinees to strictly follow the health protocol before, during, and after taking every examination. The PNP will deploy about 200 police officers in three university campuses in Cebu that will host the pilot implementation of the exams for aspiring lawyers outside Metro Manila. Carlos assured that the deployment of personnel will start early morning on the said dates to ensure that motorists around the vicinity of the campuses will be informed of te ....
(File photo) MANILA - The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday said it welcomes the measure seeking the creation of special courts that will handle cases of police officers accused of abusive acts. "Any case that has been filed in court is a different story. Promulgation of court decisions involving PNP personnel may take longer since they are calendared along with a load of cases that the trial courts are handling," PNP chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos said in a statement. The Senate's Human Rights and Justice, Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, and Finance committees on Thursday submitted Senate Bill 2331 or the proposed Police Courts Act to the plenary for proper scrutiny. In his sponsorship speech, Senator Richard Gordon emphasized the importance of having a mechanism to hold erring PNP members accountable through the passage of the measure, as he described that it will uphold accountability "as the hallmark of modern democratic governance". Under the bill, ....
