Pangasinan ramps up reforestation of denuded mountains

REFORESTATION. The local government unit of Mangatarem town in Pangasinan province continuously conducts tree planting activities to reforest denuded mountains. In an interview on Thursday, MENRO head Jessie Sacopla said they are aiming to surpass last year's planted seedlings as over 15,000 were already planted as of July this year. "We are planting more acacia and narra tree seedlings as these have higher survival rates as compared to the fruit-bearing trees," he said. Firm to supply renewable energy in Bataan

MANILA - The Peninsula Electric Cooperative, Inc. (PENELCO) has diversified its power sources to be distributed in its franchise areas, now tapping solar power through a unit of renewable energy firm Alternergy Holdings Corp. In a statement Tuesday, Alternergy said its subsidiary Solana Solar Alpha, Inc. has signed a power supply agreement (PSA) with PENELCO to supply 10 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy from the proposed Solana solar power project in Hermosa, Bataan. Solana Solar will start to supply clean energy to PENELCO by the middle of 2023, with a long-term contract of 20 years. "We are excited to partner with PENELCO. GENEVA - About 274 million people worldwide will need emergency aid and protection in 2022, a 17 percent increase from last year, the United Nations (UN) humanitarian affairs chief said on Thursday.
