(Contributed photos) CEBU CITY - The camp of presidential candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. (BBM) in Cebu is confident of clinching Cebuano votes in the May 9 elections following a pledge of support from another gubernatorial bet, former Tourism Secretary Jose Felix Mari "Ace" Durano. This development will be a repeat of history wherein opposing camps in the province are supporting a common presidential candidate. Erik Miguel Espina, former Cebu City councilor and UniTeam Alliance-Cebu director, said on Tuesday that Durano has announced his decision to go with his national party, Partido Pilipino Pagbabago (PPP), in supporting Marcos. "All hands on deck. Unsolicited support from any Juan de la Cruz in politics is welcome, for the greater cause. Current politicization is no longer addition, but multiplication," Espi ....

(File photo) MANILA - The government must tighten regulations on "e-sabong" (online cockfighting) operations if it is not willing to suspend it, according to Partido Reporma standard-bearer Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Wednesday. Lacson said its social implications may be costly once more Filipinos become addicted to it. "At least man lang strict regulation. Huwag 24 hours (At least subject 'e-sabong' to strict regulation. Making sure it does not operate 24 hours would be a start). Dapat mahigpit ang regulatory authority ng Pagcor (Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.) (Pagcor must be strict in exercising its regulatory authority)," he added, noting that the activity's online nature makes it hard to monitor. Lacson added that the social cost of "e-sabong" is too high with overseas Filipino workers not being able to come home due to gambling debts or parents having to pay the debts that their addicted children incur. There have al ....
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III MANILA - Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III has assured President Rodrigo Duterte that the impact of the current Russia-Ukraine crisis on the Philippines would only be temporary, and a comprehensive set of measures are now being implemented to ease its impact on the economy and the people. Dominguez said that despite the negative repercussions of the crisis in the form of increased energy and food prices, he is confident that the government will be able to keep inflation within the target range of 2 to 4 percent and attain its goal of expanding the economy between 7 and 9 percent this year. "I would like to emphasize that we do not expect this crisis to last very long. However, there may be some lingering effects. We have seen similar crises in the past, such as in The Gulf War in 1990, the oil price shock of 2008, and also the first Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2014, and we have weathered all of these crises very well," Dominguez said ....
