MANILA - The Labor department on Sunday assured the International Labour Organization (ILO) that cases have been filed and investigations are progressing on reported trade union rights violations. Reacting to an ILO report on "new grave allegations of violence and intimidations" against workers, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said there are functional administrative mechanisms and legal remedies that monitor and address cases of violations of labor and trade union rights. DOLE extends over P3.5-M aid to needy Tarlac workers

(File photo) MANILA - Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Secretary Silvestre Bello III fulfilled his promise to return to Tarlac province on Wednesday to distribute more government assistance to informal workers displaced by the pandemic. A media statement on Thursday said Bello led the awarding of PHP3.528 million worth of payouts from the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa ating Disadvantaged/Displaced workers (TUPAD) program to 880 farmers, tricycle drivers, and vendors who were severely affected by the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic. Repatriated OFWs hit 800K mark

(Photo courtesy of DFA) MANILA - The number of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have returned home since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic last year has breached the 800,000-mark. Based on Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) records as of Sunday, 809,374 OFWs were transported home to regions after undergoing quarantine protocols and were provided assistance by the government. Those who returned consisted mostly of pandemic-affected workers and displaced OFWs due to lockdowns. The pandemic resulted in over 125 million workers unemployed worldwide, according to the International Labour Organization.
