Similar to the last year s nationwide lockdown in March, large numbers of migrant workers are being seen concentrating at bus depots and train stations, waiting to catch a ride home while others have decided to start their journey on foot.

A disturbing but familiar situation is playing out in Delhi and Maharashtra as migrant workers from other states are leaving these cities for their homes en masse. This comes after a week-long lockdown imposed by the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal and a similar lockdown announcement is expected in Maharashtra by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray in his tonight’s address at 8 p.m. ....

Bidar (Karnataka) [India], April 14 (ANI): Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday ruled out the possibility of lockdown following surge in coronavirus cases and said that an all-party meeting has been called along with a technical advisory committee to review the COVID situation in the state.
The meeting will be conducted on April 18 and the committee will suggest the measures need to be taken to curb the coronavirus situation in the state.
Chief Minister (BS Yediyurappa) and I have called an all party meeting along with the technical advisory committee. The committee will suggest the measures need to be taken to curb the coronavirus infections in the state, Bommai said while speaking to the media here. ....

NAGPUR/MUMBAI: The state is still against a total lockdown, but will impose stricter restrictions to control the spike in Covid-19 cases, said relief and rehabilitation minister Vijay Wadettiwar in Nagpur on Friday. It is considering reducing locals’ frequency in Mumbai, shutting down cinema halls, and strictly monitoring marriage halls.
In a similar vein, school education minister Varsha Gaikwad indicated her department may promote students of Class I-IX and Class XI without exams, but clarified board exams for Class X and XII would be held offline.
“In the coming days, restrictions, not lockdown, will be put in place. We are not going to stop trains, only rescheduling is being worked out,” he said. ....

Instead of having ‘draconian’ measures like curfews imposed upon them, residents have been urged to adhere to the existing regulations.

Government does not intend to impose any State of Emergency (SoE)  or curfew measures, far less a national lockdown at this point, despite the recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the country particularly among those locals without any recent history of travel.
Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves made the point crystal clear on January 18 during an address to the nation. 
Instead of ‘those draconian measures’, Dr. Gonsalves said the government had taken the decision to tighten and manage more closely the existing restrictions and regulations, and where it was deemed necessary and desirable, to ramp up the restrictions and controls further.  ....
