Police say they are looking at this as an attempted murder and suicide. yesterday there was an altercation between creigh deeds and his son. investigators are piecing together evidence to determine the sequence of events and the motive. virginia state police responded to a 911 call from senator creigh deeds. senator deeds and his son had an altercation at the deeds residence. deeds was stabbed multiple times about the head and torso. reporter: deeds is currently in fair condition at the university of virginia medical center in charlottesville. his 24-year-old son gus was pronounced dead at the scene from what officials say was an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. first responders attempted to treat gus deeds but were unsuccessful. according to the richmond times-dispatch, he underwent a mental health evaluation but released because there no psychiatric bed available in the area. the younger deeds withdrew from college in virginia last month. ....
