On April 15, Laurentian University president Robert Hache sent out a new message, part of which addresses the question of Indigenous studies. By his estimate, Indigenous studies has 140 students registered, but the program is a casualty of his recent termination of the federation agreement as this program is offered by the University of Sudbury.
He states that Laurentian will provide these students with access to “courses rooted in Indigenous perspectives already on offer … in a range of disciplines”. He adds: “As part of our commitment to honour … our tricultural mandate, Laurentian is committed to an Indigenous Perspectives program among its academic offerings in addition to its …Bachelor of Indigenous Social Work and Master of Indigenous Relations programs.
