The president of armenias self declared Nagorno Karabakh republic has signed a decree which will dissolve all State Institutions on january the first. More than half the Ethnic Armenian population has fled since azerbaijan seized control of the region just over a week ago. The exodus of Ethnic Armenians surpassed 65,000 on wednesday. Many have ended up in the Armenian Border town of goris, from where our correspondent Sarah Rainsford updated me earlier. Were on the town square in goris, which is the main Armenian Border town, which is receiving refugees from Nagorno Karabakh. And you can see some of them behind me, just some of the giant aid effort thats been launched here to help people. Obviously, its Government Institutions that are involved, but also local people, lots of local businesses bringing donations to be handed out to people as they arrive here. Localfamilies, in fact, right across armenia, posting on social media, offering places to stay for people because there is a huge
80,000 pictures first, mr. Chairman. I wanted to get them to do that. Mr. Chairman, mr. Neil, thank you. Welcome to the rules committee. We previously began tonights markups with hr 3312. The destination improvement act of 2017. Chairman has given that testimony. We will now proceed to consideration of the conference report to accompany hr 1, tax cuts and jobs act. The tax cuts and jobs act is a bold pro growth bill that will overhaul our tax code and unleash the Free Enterprise system and it does so by lowering taxes on businesses of all size so the job creators can focus what their job is, that is creating jobs, moving forth our economy and giving people an opportunity to better their lives including increasing paychecks and the opportunity to have our country not only move forward but its people at the same time. Mr. Chairman, i have characterized this bill for quite some time as an opportunity to take 5 5. 6 trillion of 10 years worth of tax Code Provisions, and move that from tax
Activities, but also in terms of i did logical mobilization in terms of propaganda, in terms of the way you motivate a populous in order go to total war. And i indicated to you that when various leaders talked about the war as being motivated by racial ideology in attempts to secure racial purity, theres a total lizing effect. So when Adolph Hitler talks about the destruction of the jews in 1939, very clearly thats the language of total war in its own way. Equally i spoke to you before about the language of human rights and the articulation of war aims by Franklin Roosevelt and the various other allied leaders and wait in which they promised human rights would be secured everywhere in the world. Also a total guarantee. Other frooiss that have a totalizing quality are those like Unconditional Surrender which we talked about implying that there had to be a total victory rather than an arm miss stus. Today i want to talk about a specific trop in the language of total war, and that is reve
You, you seek revenge, you retaliate, they interp fret pre as a wrong, they come back at you. The momentum of total lang wachbling war is sped onwards by the rhetoric and ideas of revenge. When hitler talks about the destruction of the jews, he phrases it in the language of revenge. He blames them, obviously, inappropriately, but he blames them for the german loss in world war i, he blamed it for the Great Depression and for starting world war ii. So it is an act of revenge, in part. Weve also seen of course the language of revenge in terms of the americans fighting the japanese in the pacific. Im going to talk a little bit today about the language of revenge worked for some other combatants in the european theater of operation on both of axis and the allied side and weight effort to seek revenge drove the war onward in europe in the years that we have now reached, which are approximately those of 1942 43. And i want to begin by looking at the czech government exile. The man you see on
