Shares Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones recently launched a vegan leather shoe line in partnership with vegan shoe brand Butterfly Twists. The collaboration includes two vegan leather sneaker styles in multiple colorways. “Handmade with the finest vegan leather and designed with an innate understanding of the busy modern day women, it’s our new wardrobe essential,” the brand describes the new shoes, which are inspired by Zeta-Jones’ Welsh heritage. Zeta-Jones announced the new vegan leather shoe collection in conjunction with a new athletic apparel line she developed with dance wear brand Body Wrappers to create the activewear line which features sports bras, leggings, pants, jacket, shorts, and more. The ‘Aquaman’ actor released two limited-edition vegan sneakers made from algae as part of a collab with the climbing brand ‘So iLL’. The purpose of this new venture is to find alternatives to leather when it comes to making shoes. Some companies have used everything from cactuses to apples. The new Momoa x So iLL duo enlisted the help of BLOOM to create new sustainable shoes using algae. BLOOM’s mission is to help maintain healthy ecosystems and redue water pollution by turning ecologically harmful algae bloom into sustainable materials that can be used in a variety of useful products. ....
Is Jason Momoa vegan? While Momoa is not vegan, the native Hawaiian actor is outspoken about environmental issues. In 2019, Momoa spoke on behalf of island nations at a United Nations event where he explained that the pollution generated by developed countries is wreaking havoc on the environment and developing island nations. “We are a disease that is infecting our planet. From the atmosphere to the abyssal zone, we are polluted,” Momoa said. “We have to change now. We can no longer afford the luxury of half-assing it as we willingly force ourselves beyond the threshold of no return. As a human species we need the earth to survive.
