'치사율 10%' 원숭이두창 바이러스 감염자 미국서 발생

[헤럴드경제=박세환 기자] 미국 텍사스 댈라스에서 희소 감염병인 원숭이 두창(Monkey Pox) 바이러스에 걸린 환자가 발견됐다.
17일(현지시간) 워싱턴포스트 등 미국 언론에 따르면 댈라스 보건당국은 전날 아프리카 나이지리아를 방문한 댈러스 주민이 원숭이 두창 바이러스에 감염된 사실을 확인했다고 보고했다.보건당국에 따르면 이 환자는 병원에 입원했고 상태는 안정적이다.
댈라스 주민인 이 환자의 신원은 공개되지 않았으며 이달 8일 나이지리아 라고스에서 미국 델타항공 비행기를 타고 애틀랜타를 경유해 9일 댈라스에 도착한 것으로 파악됐다.
미국 질병통제예방센터(CDC)는 델타항공, 지역 보건 관리들과 협력해 비행기에서 환자와 접촉한 사람들이 있는지 확인하고 있다.
