Banker pleads guilty to obstruction of federal investigation

A Montgomery banker pleaded guilty in federal court to obstructing a criminal investigation after he informed a client of a subpoena for financial records.
Charles Gregory Hardy Jr., 37, pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of obstructing a criminal investigation as an officer of a financial institution.
According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney s Office, Hardy was working in April 2020 when the bank branch received a grand jury subpoena from the Drug Enforcement Administration seeking records of a client.
Grand jury subpoenas are confidential documents and bank employees are, in most cases, prohibited by federal law from disclosing a subpoena’s existence to the customer whose records are being sought, according to the news release. ....
