Memories of the past and ambitions for the future were shared at Ballyellis on Sunday as the heroics of those who have fought in the 1798 Rebellion and the War of Independence were commemorated in a special ceremony. With pikemen and women marching in columns, and both musical and oratory contributions from Michael Fortune, Barry Lacey, Aileen Fortune, Marcella Byrne, and John Cullen, this solemn occasion offered all present the opportunity to reflect upon the sacrifices made by others on the very ground they stood upon.
