most medical workers are vaccinated. 84% of state hospital workers last week. 89% of staff at long-term care facilities. every single person will need to show proof or face termination. if they are let go they won t qualify for unemployment insurance. now more locally a similar mandate was supposed to go into effect today for teachers and staff in the nation s largest school districts. originally anyone unvaccinated in the new york city s 1800 schools would be suspended without pay. however, a federal judge blocking the rule over the weekend at least temporarily but that s not before thousands of workers got their first dose. even on friday and saturday we saw the number of vaccinations in the department of education shoot upward 7,000 more vaccinations just in those days. a hearing in front of a three-judge panel is scheduled for wednesday morning. the united federation of teachers union says it hopes the delay will give the department of education more
well, a group of new york teachers are standing up for their jobs in education. they ve created their own organization to expose union policies that are ruining what they believe the education system. this is a group called educators for excellence. it s now 13,000 members strong and the united federation of teachers union is taking notice. joining me now is sydney morris, a new york teacher and the founder of educators for excellence. good morning to you. good morning. thanks for having me. you were on the show before a couple of months ago when this started brewing across the country, the idea of teachers union and our education system. what has happened since we last visited with you? so since i was last here, our membership has nearly doubled in size. we now have over 1300 members. who have all signed on to the declaration of teachers
not being able to cover those people. the timing thing with the rest of the plan not kicking in into 2014, but a significant problem. you have abstract series that might sound great in the classrooms that harbor. the reality. bret: the biggest waiver, united federation of teachers. here is what the federation released. we have 13,000 new members because of the federal legislation. rather than automatically raising payment to providers asked for a waiver while we see if we have additional cost to make payments necessary. unions including this one were supporter of the president push for healthcare reform. now they re getting a waiver. it s them, like 30 some companies getting waivers in addition.
