Bharat Digole, president of the Maharashtra State Onion Producers’ Organisation, said the firming of prices shows that the government procurement has neither benefited the farmer nor the consumer.
The onion traders are demanding the Centre develop its own supply chain to dispose of onion in retail markets. They say they cannot compete with the government prices at which the government sells onion.
