A new Bio-safety Level-3 Lab is being established near the Kerala capital by the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB) to conduct research on viruses that have the potential to cause an epidemic or pandemic such as COVID-19. The lab, which is located in Aakkulam, has been approved by the Department of Biotechnology to research COVID-19 and avian influenza.
