Editor: California has found itself in another drought and I have to ask what happened to the billions of dollars we voted to be spent on water storage projects several years back. The easy answer â not much! The so-called leadership in our state capitol screams the tired old mantra âconserveâ. Well letâs take a little trip down memory lane (politicians hate it when you remember). The last meaningful water storage project completed in California was New Melones Reservoir in 1975. The state population back in 1970 was just under 20 million. In 2016, the population was just under 40 million. Perhaps we should elect officials that can count heads. Some will cry poverty. If that is the case, maybe we take some of the dollars they wasted on the train to nowhere and build a dam or two so that we have enough water to drink for the humans as well as the fish (donât get me started on that one). ....
