New Delhi: An era came to an end when a narrow-gauge train service of Indian Railways that ran in Gujarat for 107 years has already completed its final journey. The Railway Board recently approved Western Railway’s (WR) proposal to permanently close down its narrow gauge sections and uneconomic branch rail lines over its system. 107-year-old Billimora-Waghai heritage train route was among 11 branch lines and narrow gauge sections of the Western Railways that were deemed to be “uneconomic” by the Railway Ministry, which ordered their permanent closure. ....

Unseasonal rain lash Surat on Friday morning
RAJKOT/SURAT/VADODARA: Unseasonal rains in form of light to heavy drizzle accompanied by chilly wind was recorded in most parts of the state since Thursday night. Nearly 136 talukas of Gujarat received rain with highest 35 mm in Umergam block of Valsad till 2pm on Friday.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the overcast sky, increase in atmospheric humidity and rain was due to western disturbance induced cyclonic circulation over Southwest Rajasthan.
The rain has raised fear of crop damage among the farmers. Many farmers in seven districts of Saurashta where were concerned about damage to standing crops of wheat, cumin seeds, grams, onions, garlics and pulses due to the overnight spell. ....
