Colleagues are announcing they are away with ‘do-not-disturb’ mails, friends are posting photos on Instagram of playing in the snow, families are heading out for early morning safaris and live-streaming their road trips. The travel bug is back ahead of Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Many have headed out of the city to hill resorts and sun-kissed beaches to recharge, disconnect from work and end a long, exhausting year on a high.
Many popular destinations, as well as some of the lesser known ones, have seen a rise in flight and hotel bookings for the holiday season. According to ITC Hotels COO Anil Chadha, Manesar, Agra, Jaipur and Mussoorie are among the chain’s best performing properties that are witnessing high footfalls. As foreign holiday plans remain frozen in Covid time, home is where the ski slopes are for those wanting to perfect their slalom this winter.
The Khyber-Himalayan Resort & Spa in J&K s Gulmarg is fully booked till January-end on the strength of domestic demand alone. The guests are mostly skiing enthusiasts who would usually head out to Courchevel in France, Zermatt in Switzerland or Kitzbuhel in Austria for some snow action around Christmas-New Year, said Umar Shahid Tramboo, chairman and MD of the resort.
Tramboo expects the entire season to be sold out at the 85-room luxury property, which is surprising given the fact that 90-95% of The Khyber s winter traffic normally comprises foreigners. ....
