History of ufos. so in the 1950s, there was a captain edward rupert who headed one of the first ufo studies. and after he was done and retired, he published a book saying there was this top secret report called the estimate of the situation which great title said the ufos are aliens. no one has ever found that report, right? there is never any evidence. so there is this rinse and repeat cycle we go through about the government conspiracies that, you know, there is never any evidence. and so that s an extraordinary claim that he was making today. and extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. and i m skeptical. and i m skeptical for two reasons. one, i m a scientist, and we have brutal standards of evidence for making a claim and justifying it. that s why airplanes fly and medicines don t melt your face off. and also, i m from new jersey, you know, where everybody has a hustle and a story. and you learn really quickly to be wait a minute there, pal. ....

Stigma around ufos. do you think that is the case because there is a stigma associated with the study of ufos, people think it s kind of nutty to believe it, or nutty to believe that it s possible, the reason there isn t more of an investment made into they are a legitimate national security risk? oh, absolutely. and that stigma almost killed my own field of looking for life on alien planet, alien life on alien planets, which is where you re probably going to find it. so we call that the giggle factor. even if you tried to talk about doing science, the legitimate science about life on other worlds, it was the ufos and the stigma of that that sort of kept that science being done. but in some sense, that stigma is justified, because there is a lot of craziness that has been associated with ufos. don t even get me started on roswell, the mess that is roswell. and when it comes to the idea that we have alien spaceships in garage, this kind of claim has been made throughout the entire ....
Jaw-dropping. this was in congress today. what did you make of these extraordinary claims that were made at today s hearing? yeah, well, first of all, i m happy everybody is interested in the science i do, which is try to figure out whether there is life in the universe. but the real question, is there actually any signs that tells us anything we heard about today has to do with aliens, right? and there is two parts. the first is just the ufos 245 that we see. and then there is the whole government conspiracy thing. you have to separate those out. the first one on the ufos are the uaps, it s great that the pilots are able to feel like they can start talking about things now, but when you start doing science on it, personal testimony doesn t help very much in doing the science. and when you start doing the science, you find like the nasa commission found 6%, only 6% of the cases actually are unexplained. the other 94 have natural explanations. and one of those videos you re just show ....
