Covid patients faced ostracism & social stigma during the first phase of the contagion. But are things different now?
The availability of vaccines, more treatment options and a better understanding of the disease seem to have taken the sting out of the ostracism.

This time, doctors are more confident about handling Covid-19 cases.
Udita Mitra, a sociology expert, never ever imagined she would face social ostracism. But that’s exactly what happened when the 41-year-old professor at Kolkata-based Shri Shikshayatan College contracted Covid-19 last November, soon after Diwali. “It was an eye-opener for me on human behaviour. Having been the one to propagate social change and explain its causes to my students, I found myself in unfamiliar territory,” said Mitra.
