Commencement 2021: By the numbers On Monday, May 17, the University of Pennsylvania honors the Class of 2021 with a hybrid 265th Commencement celebration. This includes a limited in-person ceremony on Franklin Field for undergraduates paired with a live online celebration for graduate and professional students, family, faculty, and staff. Penn’s live webcast begins at 9 a.m. with celebratory videos submitted by friends and family being aired. Can you talk about the beginnings of your track career? When I started track in the spring of seventh grade, I was a high jumper and I ran the 4x100. I really liked high jump a lot so going into freshman year of high school, I was a high jumper. Then, at the end of my season, a girl on our 4x200 got hurt, so they asked me well, kind of told me to run the 4x200 just this one weekend and I did pretty well. Then they asked me to run the 4x400 and I did decent in that. Then I kept running relays and I kept getting better. I think the first time I ran the open 400 was either at the end of my freshman year or the beginning of my sophomore year. I liked it because the more I ran it, the easier it got, so I just kept doing it. ....
Penn announces 2020-21 senior student-athlete awards Andrew Douglas, Uchechi Nwogwugwu, Jennifer Richards, and Ben Padon were honored for their performances in athletics and in the classroom. Penn Athletics announced its major intercollegiate senior student-athlete awards on Thursday, April 29. Five awards were handed out. In the two most prominent senior awards of the night, Andrew Douglas of the men’s squash team was honored with the Class of 1915 Award and women’s track and field star Uchechi Nwogwugwu was awarded the Association of Alumnae Fathers’ Trophy. Presented annually since 1931, the Class of 1915 Award is presented to the male student-athlete who shows outstanding athletic, academic, and leadership qualities, and has at least a 3.0 grade point average.
