The province says that they have the ability to distribute the COVID-19 vaccine quickly, yet over 5,000 doses remain unclaimed.
A limited set of criteria has been released of who will receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, focussing on those on the front line of COVID-19 healthcare. No other anticipated priority groups for the Pfizer vaccine have been released as the province is only releasing the list of those eligible as vaccines become available. During a Wednesday press conference, Premier Brian Pallister says he expects age will be a factor in the groups.
In total, 5,165 people have been immunized using the Pfizer vaccine. Manitoba has received 22,230 doses of this company s vaccine. ....

While Premier Brian Pallister boasted about the province’s readiness to vaccinate Manitobans quickly, his officials couldn’t say Wednesday how many immunizers have been hired or how many are needed.
It was also learned that Manitoba is just now in the process of hiring a provincial COVID-19 immunization director.
Pallister announced that the first personal care home residents in Manitoba will begin receiving the virus vaccine Jan. 11. ....

Hillcrest Place will be one of the first seven personal care homes in the province to have its residents given COVID-19 vaccines.

Premier Brian Pallister said in a release that all personal care home residents at 135 sites in the province will be vaccinated in a 28-day campaign.
By early March, every eligible resident will have received both doses and the fullest protection we can provide against this virus, he said. ....
