Tussock Country Festival ready to kick its heals up in Gore

O’Connor won the New Zealand Gold Guitars in 2018. (File photo) Motel rooms are booked out, the utes are getting a polish and the tickets are selling like hotcakes. Gore’s inaugural Tussock Country Music Festival, encompassing nine days and more than 30 new and traditional events, kicks off in Gore on Saturday. This year will be the first year that the Tussock Country Festival will be held, after it was cancelled in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

2021 finalists for Best Country Artist and Song announced

Photo: supplied The award recognises outstanding contributions to the Aotearoa country music scene in the last year.  Current country music Queen Tami Neilson leads the nominations, as a finalist in both te Kaipuoro Tuawhenua Toa | Best Country Music Artist for her album CHICKABOOM, and APRA Best Country Music Song for ‘Queenie Queenie’.  Joining Neilson in Best Country Music Artist category is former winner Jody Direen for her album Smokin’ Ashes and Christchurch/ Ōtautahi newcomer Ryan Fisherman for his debut album Vibe. In the APRA Best Country Music Song category, Neilson is joined by Delaney Davidson for ‘Sleep’ and Kendall Elise Todd for ‘Between Hello and Goodbye’.
