i m t.j. holmes bringing you the latest on the massive storm. hurricane irene that could affect about 20% of the population of the united states. here you are getting a look at the path of the storm. the projected path of the storm right now. some 65 million people are being threatened by this storm. it s in some of the largest cities of the country that are under threat of the storm. we are talking about new york, washington d.c., baltimore, boston, philadelphia. all areas not accustomed, necessarily, to being ready for hurricanes. hurricane irene is now a category one storm. it is on the north/northeastern path. it has been downgraded to a category one storm, but do not let that fool you. this is still a massive and powerful storm which is on the higher end of the category one strength. it did weaken overnight. it weakened somewhat overnight. still has sustained winds that are around 90 miles an hour. that is on the higher end of a category one storm. you have hurrica ....

Retake control of this city. we saw on both entrances lines of gadhafi s tanks turned. their turrets had been ripped off and their armor melted to the ground. basically the opposition has been able to push gadhafi s military back because of that air support, but over the last two days we ve seen gadhafi s military regrouping, reattacking and turning this into something of a street-to-street bat. yesterday they came across us when they entered one small area that surrounds 60 miles to the east of gadhafi s hometown of sirte. their residents fired on them. they were forced to flee. they say today in bin jawad, not only artillery and tank fire, also a street-to-street battle. this is not something that the opposition is trained for. this is not a military force. they lack equipment. they lack weaponry. they lack the military basics of being able to conduct thorough ....

These tanks strewn across the desert. we saw the aftermath of that. at least 13, 14 damaged tanks appearing to have been abandoned. others clearly hit by an air strike. the force of the blast turned them on their turrets. they d been blown to pieces. opposition fighters telling us after the air strikes took place they were able to push their front line forward acquiring whatever weapons they have and eventually driving gadhafi s forces out. what we are also being told, though, is that gadhafi s forces appear to now be based outside of the western part of the city of ajdabiya, based on opposition fighters eyewitness accounts. but this most certainly is a great victory for the opposition, and it is a clear indication of the impact of these air strikes, the impact on the battlefields here. hearing this quite some time and hearing this is certainly a ....
