An Islamic bloc is emerging between Turkey, Azerbaijan and Pakistan, three Muslim states. However, the reality is that Azerbaijan is under historical Russian influence, rather than Turkish, and Pakistan remains essentially a Chinese territory, Burak Bekdil, an Ankara based columnist and a fellow at the Middle East Forum, said in an article for the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies (BESA) on Tuesday. Extremists around the world have been emboldened in recent years, due in large part to changing political and economic currents,.
In 1988, Turkey and Pakistan established a Military Consultative Group aimed at strengthening military and defense procurement relations. As cooperation deepened, the group expanded and evolved into the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC). In early 2020, Erdogan and Pakistani PM Imran Khan co-chaired the sixth session of the HLSCC and signed 13 memoranda of understanding (MOU), five of them related to the defense industry.
