Turkey conference on Afghan peace postponed

Reuters quoting sources that the US-backed Afghan peace conference in Turkey has been postponed over non-participation by the Taliban.
Turkey announced Tuesday that it is postponing a much-anticipated Afghan peace conference in Istanbul until the end of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, Anadolu Agency reported.
“We have consulted with Qatar, the US and the UN,” Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister said on Wednesday. “We have decided to postpone the Istanbul Conference on the Afghanistan peace process after Eid al-Fitr.”
“The conference would be meaningless without the Taliban joining. At the moment, we decided to postpone it since there is no clarity about the formation of the delegations and participation…The aim is not to initiate alternative talks to Doha but to contribute to the process. Hosting the meeting together in Istanbul will be Turkey, Qatar and the UN,” Anadolu quoted Cavusoglu. ....

MoI claims 5 wounded in Kabul car bomb on NDS forces

The Ministry of Interior on Wednesday confirmed at least five people were wounded in an explosion that rocked Kabul late Tuesday night.
The explosion happened at around 21:50 in PD15 in Charahi Shahid on the Airport Road.
Sources said a car bomb was used in the attack that targeted a convoy of National Directorate of Security (NDS) vehicles that were returning to a compound to refuel.
However, some sources in the area told Ariana News that five people, including two civilians, were killed and others wounded.
The explosion, which was felt across the city, also caused substantial damage to nearby houses and businesses. Vehicles in the area were also damaged in the blast. ....

Foreign envoys trying to persuade Taliban to attend Turkey Conference

Sources from the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) said on Sunday that envoys from the United Nations, U.S, Turkey, and Qatar in Doha are trying to convince the Taliban to attend the upcoming Istanbul Conference.
Following the announcement that all foreign troops will be out of Afghanistan by September and not May 1 as per the US-Taliban agreement signed in February last year, the Taliban said it will not participate in any conference on Afghanistan’s future until there has been a full withdrawal of all foreign forces.
On Sunday, Hajji Din Mohammad, the deputy head of the HCNR said UN and US envoys “have no meeting with us [Afghan delegation], they have put in efforts to bring the Taliban to the negotiating table in Turkey.” ....

Eight family members killed during Tarawih prayers in Nangarhar

Ninety-seven people were injured on Sunday (April 18) when four train carriages derailed in Egypt’s Qalioubia province north of Cairo, the health ministry said in a statement.
Two security sources and local media reported that several people had been killed in the accident, but there was no official confirmation.
Officials did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
The train was heading from Cairo to the Nile Delta city of Mansoura and derailed at 13.54 local time (11:54 GMT), about 40 kilometres north of Cairo, Egyptian National Railways said in a short statement.
The cause of the accident is being investigated, it added. ....

It's true Danish lambasts HCNR peace plan – Pajhwok Afghan News

KABUL (Pajhwok): Reports that Second Vice President Sarwar Danish has termed the peace plan prepared by the High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) as an insult to the Presidential Palace proposal are true.
Danish on his facebook page termed the HCNR peace plan as weak and exclusive and said the government’s peace proposal was deliberately showcased as ambiguous.
The HCNR on its Facebook page wrote: “The committee tasked to unify different peace proposals has finalized the preamble of the Islamic Republic plan after deep consideration.”
According to sources, the preamble of the Islamic Republic Peace plan would be soon presented in the HCNR leadership meeting for approval. ....
