President Radev's talks with Bulgarian parties fail to provide Cabinet clarity


Bulgarian President Roumen Radev held consultations on April 19 with six political parties and coalitions represented in the 45th National Assembly, but the talks offered little clarity on whether the new legislature could vote a new government into office.
Radev said that he held the meetings as part of the constitutional procedure, without meaning them to be seen as “pushing the process in any specific direction” or himself serving as “the architect of a future coalition and government.”
The introductory remarks in each meeting were open to the media, but the rest of the talks, lasting under one hour in each case, were not made public. ....

Bulgaria's newly-elected Parliament to hold first sitting on April 15


Bulgarian head of state President Roumen Radev has signed a decree convening the first sitting of the 45th National Assembly on April 15 at 9am, the President’s office said on April 13.
The announcement came a few hours after the names of the 240 elected MPs were published in the State Gazette, following Bulgaria’s regular parliamentary elections held on April 4.
Boiko Borissov’s GERB will have 75 MPs in the next Parliament, followed by ITN, the party formed around cable television presenter Slavi Trifonov, with 51 seats.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) won 43 seats and the predominantly ethnic Turk Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – 30 seats. ....

Bulgarian parliamentary elections: Central Election Commission announces seat distribution


Bulgaria’s Central Election Commission (CEC) announced on April 9 the seat distribution in the 45th National Assembly, with the full list of MPs set to be made public next week.
Prime Minister Boiko Borissov’s GERB will have 75 MPs in the next Parliament, followed by ITN, the party formed around cable television presenter Slavi Trifonov, with 51 seats.
The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) won 43 seats and the predominantly ethnic Turk Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) – 30 seats.
Hristo Ivanov’s Democratic Bulgaria coalition will have 27 seats and the coalition between former ombudsman Maya Manolova and “The Poison Trio”, the organisers of the anti-government protests in summer 2020, won 14 seats. ....

Partial results show GERB winning Bulgaria's April 2021 parliamentary elections


Prime Minister Boiko Borissov’s centre-right party GERB was set to win the largest number of seats in the April 4 parliamentary elections, with six parties and coalitions surpassing the parliamentary representation threshold, data from the Central Electoral Commission showed on April 5.
With ballots from 77 per cent of all voting precincts tallied, the GERB-Union of Democratic Forces electoral coalition had received 26 per cent of the votes, ahead of the party formed around cable television presenter Slavi Trifonov, which had 18.1 per cent.
The largest opposition party in the previous National Assembly, Kornelia Ninova’s Bulgarian Socialist Party, was in third with 14.9 per cent. ....
