Surrounded by friends and her three daughters, Lena Wigger of Saranac Lake turned 99 on April 28. She was a longtime cook at St. Bernard’s and Pius X Catholic schools in Saranac Lake and received more than 125 Facebook messages of congratulations from her former students.

Adirondack Health holds COVID-19 pop-up testing clinic in Tupper Lake today | News, Sports, Jobs

TUPPER LAKE Adirondack Health will conduct a pop-up testing clinic in Tupper Lake today from 1 to 2 p.m. at Tupper Lake Middle-High School, 25 Chaney Ave.
Pre-registration is required, with a limited number of appointment slots available. To pre-register, contact the Adirondack Health COVID-19 clinic at 518-897-2462. There is no direct cost to the individual being tested, but Adirondack Health will collect health insurance information and bill insurance companies. Insurance companies, in turn, are prohibited by New York state from charging co-pays or deductibles for COVID-19 testing. Individuals without health insurance will be tested free of charge.
Testing is open to everyone, symptomatic or asymptomatic, regardless of employment status or category. A doctor’s order is suggested but not required. Every COVID-19 test will entail a nasopharyngeal (sinus) swab. Blood draws to check for antibodies are currently unavailable at mobile testing clinics. ....

Libby Gillis of Tupper Lake earns Girl Scout Gold Award | News, Sports, Jobs

TUPPER LAKE Libby Gillis earned the Girl Scouts’ highest level, the Gold Award, in October 2020 for her work to raise awareness about climate change.
A Gold Award is equivalent to the Boy Scouts’ Eagle Scout designation.
Gillis is a junior at Tupper Lake High School and the daughter of Robert Gillis and Lisa Littlefield-Gillis. She is part of Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York Service Unit 454, Troop 4123 of Tupper Lake.
With the support of her school’s environmental club, the Green Team, Gillis started an annual Green (spirit) Week at her school. She also created a Green Week video to raise awareness outside of the school, which won awards at the AdkAction Beyond the Peaks Student Film Festival, in both its category and second place in the Audience Choice category.
