12/20/2020 WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Earle Wayne Wilk Wilkins Jr. on Sunday, Dec. 20, 2020. Wilk died at home and at peace. He was 101 years old. His last days were in keeping with all his days: uncommonly attentive to others, driven to get the very most out of life. Wilk grew up in Rensselaer, N.Y., and after graduating from he Albany Academy in 1937 and went on to Williams College, where he majored with honors in chemistry, and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude in 1941. While at Williams he also played varsity football and baseball, and served as president of both his class and his fraternity setting up a lifetime relationship with the College that spanned nearly 84 years, including as a dedicated member of the board of trustees and president of the Society of Alumni. ....
When the pandemic closed Williams’ campus in the spring of 2020, Allie Campbell ’21 started tutoring elementary and middle school students remotely from her hometown in New Hampshire. She returned to Williams in the fall, eager to connect with young students in a practical, hands-on way. She signed on as a writing fellow with the Williams Center at Mount Greylock, a 10-year-old collaboration between the local high school and Williams’ Center for Learning in Action (CLiA). In a typical year, 30 to 40 Williams students, through CLiA, visit classes in person several times per week, helping Mount Greylock students with assignments in all subjects, from writing to Latin to math. The Williams students share notetaking techniques, assist with locker organization or quietly do their own homework alongside a student, among other activities.
