Oklahoma Tribes See Spike In COVID-19 Cases

Tribal members in Oklahoma are testing positive for COVID-19 more than other Native Americans across the country.   Muscogee Nation Health Secretary Shawn Terry said COVID cases in his tribe are getting worse by the day. Our positive rates today are in the upper teens probably somewhere around 16 -17% positivity rates, which is a lot higher than what we would like to see it, said Terry.  According the Indian Health Service, tribal members in the Oklahoma, Kansas area have the highest positivity rate in the county - at nearly 13%.  We ve had a very similar increase as the state, explained IHS director Travis Watts.

Blue Cross Blue Shield Says Saint Francis Health System Leaving Network After Failed Negotiations

Saint Francis Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma said Wednesday that negotiations with Saint Francis Health System had failed and, as a result, Saint Francis will leave the network on July 29th. After months of negotiation in good faith with Saint Francis Health System, BCBSOK and Saint Francis were unable to reach an agreement that would protect Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma members and customers from future cost increases as the hospital system continues to grow and expand, the insurer said in a statement.  The split, first reported by KTUL, impacts all Saint Francis hospitals, off-campus locations, and all Laureate and Warren Clinic doctors and health care professionals, according to BCBSOK, which said Wednesday it was in the process of informing 59,000 member households of the situation.

Former CTCA Tulsa Patients Searching For New Cancer Care Options Patients have been searching for new doctors since Cancer Treatment Centers of America announced it’s closing its Tulsa location a month ago. Some have found new care, but others are concerned about where to go next. The day they announced they were closing, I started calling everybody to see who could get me in, said Lt. Commander Murry Estabrook. Estabrook found out he had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer in January and got an appointment with Cancer Treatment Centers of America within 48 hours.  After they announced their June closure, he was worried he wouldn t have a place to go.
