Nearly every weekday evening since March 2020, Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Judge Nelson Wolff have appeared before the media and community (via social media and public access TV) to provide COVID-19 updates. Along with reporting SA’s daily case numbers, deaths and hospitalizations, they’ve answered questions about regulations, reminded the community to mask up and tried to communicate the urgency that came with filling hospitals and emerging vaccine availability. The virus became a political issue at nearly every level in 2020 and our local leaders played the game when necessary, with Wolff finding what can only be described as a loophole in Gov. Greg Abbott’s initial order not requiring masks. While the state regulation said Wolff couldn’t mandate mask wearing for residents, Wolff found he could require county businesses to insist their custom ....

COVID-19 testing to end at AT&T center, will move to Rackspace and Barshop Jewish Community Center
Both new locations will offer free, self-administered PCR tests to the general public

Feb. 5 will be the last day for asymptomatic COVID-19 testing at the AT&T Center.
SAN ANTONIO – The Community Lab asymptomatic COVID-19 testing site at the AT&T Center will close after this week, but two new locations are coming starting Monday.
Friday will be the final day of free testing at the AT&T Center.
“The AT&T Center has been a great partner, but the upcoming San Antonio Livestock Show and Rodeo and continuing NBA Spurs games pose significant scheduling restrictions,” said Community Labs president, Sal Webber. “We’re incredibly grateful to the Barshop Jewish Community Center and Rackspace Technology for offering us locations to continue to serve asymptomatic people who wish to be tested for COVID-19.” ....
