By Johnson Raela Nine Pacific young people were recognised as recipients of the 2022 Prime Minister’s Pacific Youth Awards (PMPYA) at Parliament on Monday evening. The young people were rewarded for their outstanding achievements in several fields, including being advocates for their language and culture; for leadership and entrepreneurship; and for their efforts in the arts, education and the community. The awards were presented by Deputy Prime Minister Grant Robertson and Minister for Pacific Peoples Aupito William Sio. To e Lokeni, 17, from Porirua received the Business and Entrepreneurship award. ....
From climate justice to food security, young women are leading the way in combating injustices in Aotearoa and around the world. The YWCA is once again honouring 25 young trailblazing wāhine who have made strides in their communities despite the chaos of a Covid year. The stresses of Covid-19, inability to fully socialise for weeks on end and, often, adjusting to work from home meant that for many the past year wasn’t the most productive. It’s therefore even more impressive to read through this year’s Y25 list, featuring a group of wāhine, all aged 25 or younger, who turned the time we all had last year to their advantage – running campaigns, volunteering, uplifting their communities and doing crucial work to help those most disadvantaged by not just the pandemic, but society itself. ....
7 Pasifika Women make the Y25 List 7 Pasifika women have made the Y25, a list of 25 extraordinary women under the age of 25. Each year the YWCA Aotearoa puts together a list of Y25 rising trailblazers. The YWCA looks for young women who are raising their voices, . The Y25 are doers, makers, shakers, change-makers and community leaders doing incredible things to change their world. This year the Y25 list has environmental activists, STEM champions, community advocates, rainbow warriors, innovative entrepreneurs, and more. Amongst this list of passionate and talented young women are 7 young leaders from the Pasifika community. These young Pasifika women are empowered, motivated and ready to change the world. ....
