Jeannette Eaton Skidompha Library’s Teen Services offering is a virtual life-drawing class with Chewonki. Have you ever wanted to try drawing owls, reptiles, or insects from live models? Teen Services at Skidompha Public Library is excited to partner with The Chewonki Foundation in Wiscasset to offer you the chance! An educator from Chewonki’s Traveling Natural History program is teaching a virtual life-drawing class for Skidompha teens on Saturday, May 8 from noon to 1 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to meet some of Chewonki’s resident owls, reptiles, or insects and have some fun capturing them on the page. ....
Print There was a lot of crime in the neighborhood where Jared Diaz Barrios was growing up. He couldn’t just run outside and play it wasn’t safe, especially when it got dark. But Jared saw a challenge in the adversity. “Even if I couldn’t do anything about the unsafe neighborhood at age 7, I knew that if I stayed academically strong I could eventually, one day, start to make changes and overcome the obstacles,” Jared said. He set his mind on studying hard. Jared, 15, rose to the challenge. Not only is he a top student with a 4.0 GPA in honors classes at Mission Hills High School in San Marcos, he is constantly working to help his community serving meals to folks in need during the pandemic, cleaning up parks and feeding the homeless, and mentoring other youths along with leading an effort to package several thousand face masks for the community. ....
