Failures at the highest levels of government to heed the experts has led to the pandemic’s incomprehensible toll in our country. The great irony is that those who educate our children have fallen victim to the same fallacy. The DJUSD Board recently agreed to reopening parameters that are not aligned with public health recommendations. While DJUSD has consulted public health experts, no experts were present at the meeting in which the board, excepting Trustee Hyder, approved a reopening plan that contradicts science and expert opinion. Current public health guidance allows K-6 schools to reopen with a case rate of 25 per 100,000. ....
