Before there was ever a Grand Central station in new york city, there was a Grand Central depot that Cornelius Vanderbilt created as a terminal for his train lines in new york city. To this day theres a street that runs right up one side of Grand Central station thats called vanderbilt avenue. Thats named after him. And for years, for decades, on the other side of Grand Central station, on the other side of it from vanderbilt avenue, there was another monument to vanderbilt that didnt use his last name. It used his nickname. The nickname that everybody used for Cornelius Vanderbilt was the commodore. Commodore is a high rank in the navy. Cornelius vanderbilt never served in the navy, but apparently he got the nickname of the commodore in his days as a kid running those Ferry Services in new york harbor. Protect the dreamers and for further discussions on what provisions relating to the border might be in an accompanying bill or whatever as we go forward. So i trust the president in that regard. The president also seemed to signal he was in fact open to something, but its unclear exactly what he plans on doing. Heres what he said yesterday. Were working on a deal for daca but a lot has to do with the amount of security. We want very heavy security at the border. Were not talking about that. Were not talking about amnesty at all. When all in starts right now. Good evening from new york, im kris h chris hayes. The closer special Counsel Robert Mueller gets to the president , the harder they are working to discredit the investigation and the fbi, indeed the very notion of politically independent Law Enforcement. In the wake of Michael Flynns guilty plea requiring him to cooperate with the russia investigation, and news that mueller subpoenaed the president s bank for financial records, republicans appear to be laying the groundwork for a political purge at the fbi. Theyre seesiizing on reports t an agent was removed last summer after the justice departments Inspector General began examining whether that agent had sent Text Messages that expressed antitrump political views. Controversial cabinet officials in the Trump Administration, which in this administration is really saying something. Aside from the bare bones questions how he got this job in the first place and what a lifelong exxon employee might want to do to the u. S. State department and questions about the implications of his unusually close personal relationship of vladimir putin, alongside all those baseline concerns about him taking over at state, alongside all that, has risen something approaching panic now among Longtime Foreign Service professionals and senior diplomats. As Rex Tillerson has just taken a meat ax to the state department particularly to its upper echelons. We have reported on this extensively on this show but the New York Times just walloped the issue with this report. Diplomats sound the alarm as they are pushed out in droves. Well, following that report from over the holiday break in the New York Times, tonight, Bloomberg News is first to report that there is about to be
