Express News Service NEW DELHI: Just days before exiting the White House, the Trump Administration on Friday added nine Chinese firms, including smartphone giant Xiaomi, to its list of blacklisted companies. The US alleged that the companies had links to the Chinese military, terming them “Communist Chinese Military Compan(ies)”. Xiaomi and the other banned companies will now have to comply with the executive order passed by US President Donald Trump in November 2020, which prohibits US investors from making investments in the blacklisted Companies. US investors will also have to divest their stakes in the banned Chinese companies by November this year. ....
US purchases additional 100 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer, full distribution of order expected by July Updated Dec 23, 2020; As new cases of coronavirus surged beyond 18 million in the United States, the Trump Administration on Wednesday announced the purchase of 100 million additional doses of Pfizer’s vaccine. In the agreement announced by Health and Human Services, Pfizer will manufacture and deliver up to 100 million doses of its SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, BNT162b2, to designated locations. The order pushes the overall total number of vaccines the U.S. government has purchased from Pfizer to 200 million. The full order is expected no later than July 31, 2021 with at least 70 million doses arriving by the end of June. ....
Where go the Uighurs A newly released research report from the Center for Global Policy indicates that the Chinese are now forcing Uighurs to hand-pick cotton in the western province of Xinjiang, north of Tibet. Xinjiang produces 20% of the world supply of cotton. The report notes that hand-picked cotton is considered to be of higher quality than machine-picked, and that the government had previously used prison labor to pick the cotton, creating a “cotton gulag.” Now, through “poverty alleviation programs,” even more laborers are being forced into the back-breaking work. But beyond the purported efforts at eliminating poverty (a long-stated goal of Chinese President Xi), the enslavement of the local population is an effort at population control. The report notes, “[W]orkers who work and live on secure compounds… are more easily controlled.” In addition, in some regions, working-age Uighurs are shipped off to state-assigned cotton-picking work assignments” ....
