to life in prison. i remember hearing when it first happened and i remember screaming. and i if i could have given him more i would have. reporter: on thanksgiving day last year, 83-year-old lila meizell s burned body was found inside her wheaton home. ramon and his cousin jose alvarado planned to kill her, after jose altered a paycheck she d giv him for some landscaping work. prosecutor s say meizell employed alvarado to take care of her yard for two years, giving him and his family food and extra money at times but they say it was ramon who beat lila. poured gasoline and then set her on fire. the coroner said she survived the beating, but died from the fire. it is hard to imagine that any human being could treat another human being as this 83-year-old widow, living alone, a vibrant, independent life was treated by these individuals. reporter: when asked if he had anything to say for himself in court, alvarado only said i m thinking about what my mother is going t
