The Ministry of Sugar will today announce an assistance package in excess of $4 million for sugarcane growers in the northern division affected by Tropical Cyclones Yasa and Ana.
Sugar Ministry permanent secretary Yogesh Karan said the targeted aid rollout would ensure farmers most affected received the assistance needed to rehabilitate their farms and begin replanting programs.
“We were expecting a bumper crop this season and the cyclones and flooding has caused quite a bit of damage,” he said.
