Authorities in Fiji are urging citizens to prepare for a potentially devastating cyclone later this week. Modelling from the Fiji Meteorological Service shows Cyclone Yasa, which is currently a category three storm, is set to intensify to a category five by Thursday. On its current path, the cyclone will pass over islands in Fiji s west, including the tourist town of Nadi. Nadraki weather forecaster Neville Koop said the storm is making a loop in waters east of Vanuatu, making it difficult to predict. Because the cyclone is conducting a clockwise loop at the moment, it s a little bit like watching a cricket bowler as his arm is winding around, he said. ....

The Tonga Metservice said Tropical Cyclone Zazu was a category one system, currently packing winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour (56 miles an hour), and expected to reach category two on Wednesday. Meanwhile, forecasters in Fiji said Tropical Cyclone Yasa had reached category three status as it rumbled about 600 kilometres off the coast of the main island Viti Levu, and could top the scale at category five by late Thursday. ....
