A Vermont State Police Trooper from Arlington pleaded not guilty to a single count of simple assault after he was accused of punching a handcuffed man multiple times in the head, something that two of his fellow Troopers said in court documents were excessive.
Trooper Robert Zink did not speak during the arraignment that was held via computer and lasted only minutes. Zinkâs attorney, David Sleigh, told Superior Court Judge Cortland Corsones that his client would plead not guilty to the charge.
Corsones released Zink on his own recognizance. The two parties will be notified when the next hearing is scheduled.
