impeachment. why do you think this is the way to go? because we want a fair trial. speakser pelosi won tant transfer the articles of impeachment until we have assurances there s will be a fair trial. we all know mitch mcconnell, senator mcconnell said he was not an impartial juror. he would work in lock step with the president who who is the defendant in this trial proceeding and mcconnell also rejected our very reasonable request for relevant fact witnesses. ip think the american people know that a real trial that s fair, you get to call your fact witnesses, and so pelosi s doing the right thing. first, process, one of the tricky things in the constitution. it s clear as far as what the house and senate need to do, but no clear set of rules on how those articles must make their way from the house to the senate. so senator van hollen, what do you say if leader mcconnell just says, well, we re going to start a trial anyway? what do you do?

with mcconnell slamming schumer s proposal that the president s inner circle be called to testify. so now senate democratic leader would apparently like our chamber to do house democrats homework for them. he wants to volunteer the senate s time and energy on a fishing expedition to see whether his own ideas could make chairman schiff s sloppy work more persuasive than chairman schiff himself bothered to make it. why is the leader why is the president so afraid of having these witnesses come testify? what are they afraid the witnesses would say? well, this morning senator mcconnell made it very clear how he sees a potential senate trial proceeding. i will listen to the arguments that the house managers appointed by pelosi make. we ll listen to the response of the president s lawyers. we ll have a period of written questions and then the senate

the evidence is already in. i could foresee lindsey graham through the judiciary committee subpoenaing hunter biden and getting deposition testimony. but recall the clinton impeachment. there wasn t live testimony before the united states senate. there were a limited number of depositions. the evidence was shared with the senators. mostly an impeachment proceeding before the senate is a trial proceeding, a deliberation. the president would present a case in the sense that there would be statements as would the impeachment managers that would act on behalf of the house. but live testimony is not what i imagine that we would see before the united states senate. i think finally, after a couple of weeks of this since the republicans have control of the chamber, i would imagine a motion to dismiss would be properly filed and considered. we would end this in short circuit it without the president even having to put on a defense.
