Rain makes driving tricky on grid roads

The recent rain has caused some tricky driving sections of Township Road in the RM of Buckland.
Reeve Don Fyrk said grader work was being done a few weeks ago on a section of Township Road and then the rain came.
“Every RM [road] was [like a] washboard because of no rain and now we got the rain, and any place there has been a soft spot is going to be like soup right now.”
Fyrk said the grader was pulling the shoulders. Over the years, the gravel gets down on the sides of the roads.
Local residents had a struggle after the rain came, making driving the stretch of grid road difficult for anyone with a smaller vehicle. ....

Jonathan Brown, 18, of Greenfield, was issued a citation for squealing tires.
Daniel Butcher, 37, of Greenfield, was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear from the Highland County Sheriff’s Office and a probation violation from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

LEWISTON, Maine A Lewiston man was killed Tuesday evening when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV backing into a downtown intersection.
Police did not immediately release the name of the 44-year-old driver.
Lewiston Police Lt. Trevor Campbell said the man was traveling on a moped-type motorcycle through the intersection of Walnut and Bartlett streets at about 5 p.m. when he was hit by an SUV that was backing up. ....

Take a trip down Yampa Avenue in the 400 and 500 blocks in the next few days and you’ll notice a startling difference immediately: no trees downtown.
On Tuesday, city crews began cutting down the trees along the 400 and 500 block of Yampa Avenue, marking the official start of the 2021 Sidewalk Project, focusing on improvements to the sidewalk, lighting, and landscape in the area.
For many especially a handful of business owners downtown – the project is an exciting one, seen as a way to continue the revitalization and make Craig and Moffat County more attractive to tourists.
For others though, there’s plenty of concern – and in some cases outrage – with the removal of trees and what downtown, which many say looks like its straight off of a Hallmark card, will look like moving forward. ....
