Rescue teams were called to Cyprus Lake Road at Bruce Peninsula National Park near Tobermory after the Ontario Provincial Police received numerous calls at around 2:30 p.m. about the stranded hikers.
Two hikers were rescued by helicopter from an ice sheet after it split from shore in the Northern Bruce Peninsula and drifted three kilometres into Georgian Bay.
On Sunday at about 2:30 p.m., Grey Bruce Ontario Provincial Police responded to a 911 call involving two hikers who had been walking at Bruce Peninsula National Park on Cyprus Lake Road, near Tobermory in the Northern Bruce Peninsula. ....

'AMAZING TEAM WORK': Helicopter rescues hikers from ice floe near Tobermory

Both people were returned safely to shore and were uninjured.
“This was amazing team work by all of the involved services,” Grey Bruce OPP Acting Insp. Debra Anderson said in the release. “Everyone worked together to safely rescue these hikers. This situation could have ended in tragedy.”
The pair of hikers had been walking on the ice near the national park when a large piece broke away from the shore, leaving them stranded. The floating ice continued drifting out into Georgian Bay, the release said.
Emergency services responded to Cyprus Lake Road at 2:30 p.m., with OPP being assisted at shore by Bruce County Paramedics, Northern Bruce Peninsula Fire Department and Parks Canada. ....

The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre Trenton says it was called in to help rescue two people trapped on an ice floe near Tobermory Sunday.
JRCC Trenton is a rescue coordination centre operated by the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Coast Guard.
The JRCC says on Twitter, a Hercules aircraft crew located the individuals and an OPP helicopter evacuated them from the ice floe.
Grey Bruce OPP say the pair of hikers had been walking on the ice near the park, when a large piece of ice broke away from the shoreline, leaving the hikers stranded and drifting out onto Georgian Bay. ....
