last night a tower of light lit up the sky from lower manhattan where nearly 3,000 people lost their lives and there s a similar tribute over at the pentagon where more than 180 people died. two decades have passed since terrorists hijacked planes crashing two into the twin towers at the world trade center and one into the pentagon. passengers on a fourth flight fought back forcing hijackers to crash the plane into a field in shanksville, pennsylvania. who could ever forget the story of the two words. for the first time as commander in chief, president biden will pay his respects at the three sites. he recognized the people who died and the people they loved that are left behind. it s so hard, whether it s the first year, the 20th. so many have grown up without parents. parents are suffering without children. husbands and wives had to find ways forward without their partners in life. brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts, loved ones awith a hole n their heart. no matter
overseas, as israel launches strikes against palestinian militants in the west bank. what the white house is saying about the stepped up violence there. and later, new reporting on the race for president. why the first gop debate is at risk of losing its draw. the latest on donald trump s double digit lead against his republican rivals is straight ahead. welcome to msnbc s live coverage on this tuesday, july 4th. we start with breaking news overnight. five people are dead and two children injured after a gunman wearing body armor opened fire in a philadelphia neighborhood. police first responded to the attack just before 8:30 p.m. after reports of gunfire in multiple locations. officers arrived on the scene and began chasing the suspected gunman who continued firing and didn t stop until he was cornered in an alley. that is where he surrendered. about 50 spent shell casings were found in the area which covers a two by four block stretch. the people were all adult men. the

now we hear reports of people being looted. good morning. since harvey made landfall, the coast guard have performed more than 1450 rescues. that number doesn t include volunteers out in their own personal water craft rescuing people stuck in their homes. the rain keeps coming. as the remnants of hurricane harvey continue to pour over houston and the texas gulf coast, another day of historic rainfall, putting much of the nation s fourth largest city under water. we rode out last year s and it was okay. but this was more than we could imagine. thousands have been forced from their homes. the water was up to here. i walked out and i was just like screaming. the worst of the flooding isn t over yet. bottom line is is that it s going to continue on. we need the whole community, not only the federal government forces, but this is a whole community effort. citizens are giving involved, joining the more than 3,000 national guard troops and coast guard called in to help
they track along florida with the updated track. remember it s more about the cone than the direct red line that you see. that is just the potential track that is most likely at this point and you can see the cone still covers much of florida here from about sunday early morning to tuesday early morning. so this is not just a day event here that we re looking at. winds at 155-mile-per-hour with hurricane irma and it s moving to the west/northwest. so we are seeing that it will edge more to the north and make that turn. look at the track, riding the cuba coastline through today. overnight into early sunday, it looks likely that it will start to impact and make landfall somewhere over the florida keys before it moves right along the western coast of florida through about tuesday in those early a.m. hours. so irma is very soon going to be directly impacting florida. there are hurricane watches and warnings over pretty of the entire state. those in red are under right now the mor
