They track along florida with the updated track. Remember its more about the cone than the direct red line that you see. That is just the potential track that is most likely at this point and you can see the cone still covers much of florida here from about sunday Early Morning to tuesday Early Morning. So this is not just a day event here that were looking at. Winds at 155mileperhour with Hurricane Irma and its moving to the west northwest. So we are seeing that it will edge more to the north and make that turn. Look at the track, riding the cuba coastline through today. Overnight into early sunday, it looks likely that it will start to impact and make landfall somewhere over the florida keys before it moves right along the western coast of florida through about tuesday in those early a. M. Hours. So irma is very soon going to be directly impacting florida. There are hurricane watches and warnings over pretty of the entire state. Those in red are under right now the more immediate hurricane warning. I would not be surprised if that is maybe extended along tampa and areas north of that coastline. There are actually three hurricanes that were in place yesterday and overnight some strengthened, some weakened. Here is jose at 150 miles per hour, a category 4. And look how close it is to the northern Leeward Islands that were just impacted by irma. Likely going to start to hook to the north though and not expected to have any impact on u. S. Land. And then katia downgraded to a Tropical Storm making landfall over mexico. And you can see the moisture a little more scattered now that it has started to weaken. Coming up, well talk more locally about conditions out there this morning and well discuss more on irma as well within the next half hour. Right now Hurricane Irma continues its destructive march and is headed on a collision course with florida. As krystal mentioned, irma is starting to turn north and could hit the florida keys tomorrow morning. It made landfall in due about a la cuba late last night at a category 5, and this morning its a category 4. Irma is responsible for at least 23 deaths in the caribbean and now florida is bracing for impact. 5. 6 Million People are under evacuation orders in the sunshine state. That is 25 of floridas population. This could be the largest Mass Evacuation in u. S. History. Florida governor rick scott says its too late to leave and people who did not heed the warnings all week will have to ride out the storm. Hurricane irma continues to be a threat that will very much investigation sta devastate the united states. Right now the size stretches across an area that is wider than the state of florida. This morning a Delaware County shelter is getting more dogs from irmas path. Volunteers have rescued dogs from florida, georgia and north carolina. They are now at the Providence Animal Center in media. The shelter is trying to make room for even more hurricane dogs and cats and is offering deals. Dogs, puppies and kittens are half off, cats are 25. You can count on nbc 10 to bring you updates on Hurricane Irma. We have learned that Pennsylvania State police are assisting Whitehall Police after an officer was shot. Cameras spotted one person being taken on a stretcher into an ambulance. The investigation still very early, but Authorities Say its the white how will Police Department that is handling and leading this investigation. This morning in philadelphia, the hunt continues for the two men who shot this father to death right in front of his 2yearold daughter. Philadelphia Police Say Two men wearing dark hoodies and tan pants confronted jerry grandzol as he left his car thursday night. Sources say the crime was all caught on tape with grandzol turning over his wallet, but then the robber shot him twice in the face. Police believe the robbers were after the car. And that grandzol warranted to g wanted to get his daughter and dog out before turning over the keys. They wanted the car, he wouldnt give up the car. And they not him for it. Started putting pressure on his wounds and scooping blood out of his mouth so he can try and breathe. Neighbors came together last night at the Community Garden grandzol helped to create and remembered the father of two. His wife recently just gave birth to a second child. Anybody with information is asked by police to come forward. A warning for anybody who lives near philadelphia international. If you hear some sirens today dont worry, its just a drill. Winds at 5 miles per hour. 68 the temperature around your lunchtime and then same thing, 70 to 71 degrees, high temperatures in the low 70s this afternoon. A really pretty day at the shore. But because we have jose and irma churning unwater, we have a high rip current risk. So being in the water not the best plan especially if there is no lifeguard present. In philadelphia this morning, the search continues for two men who attacked a La Salle University student who was walking alone thursday night. The woman was attacked at kimble park right by La Salle University in the olney neighborhood. Police tell us the pair followed her and then threw bleach in her face before throwing her to the ground and assaulting her. Victim was on the phone with her boyfriend at the time, so he quickly lettered what was goihe and called police. The student went to the hospital with injuries and has since been released. Aware County School wants to know how 239 bags of a power if opoid ended up in its parking lot. Parents at saint bernadette found the drug fentanyl thursday afternoon. No students were injured. Krystal klei is keeping track of Hurricane Irma and watching our weekend weather as well. Yeah, and thats where well start. Radar and satellite view looking over Hurricane Irma. You can now see remember radar only stretches out a certain distance, so the radar we are picking up now starting to see the actual eye of irma as will rides right along cubas coastline. And throughout today it will continue riding cubas coastline, but its also turning west northwest. If it continues in that direction, it will move right up that western coast of florida by tomorrow and into the workweek. So you have the rain bands that are now extended through the keys and even clipping that southern most tip of florida. Some of the heaviest rain will continue pounding them over the next several days where they could see a foot of rain or even more over the southern half of the entire state. Here is the latest details. 155mileperhour winds, moving to the west northwest. You can see just massive inside, more than 500 miles wide. The state of florida only 150 miles wide. The latest track as it a category 4, although with the warm waters, there is a slight chance it could upgrade again to a category 5. By 2 00 p. M. , you see that its right along the coast of florida here and to the north of the keys. And then from monday through tuesday, moving through florida and into georgia when it finally starts to weaken. But this will be a terrible system for the entire state of florida regardless. A life threatening situation because of the storm surge, the extremely strong winds and on top of that, the heavy rain that is to come. You can see the cone itself covers almost the entire state of florida with the potential impact. So really doesnt matter exactly where someone is in florida, they are going to feel very serious effects as a result. Here is a look at the watches and warnings in place. The red indicates the hurricane warning currently in place, the pink under a hurricane watch which may be upgraded. And these are the latest forecasts from the National Hurricane center. Storm surge 5 to 10 feet along the eastern coast, 8 to 12 feet for storm surge along the western coast. That is 12 feet above ground level. So were talking extremely high waters rushing in from the coastline as a result of irma. And as a result of irma as well as jose, we are actually looking at high risk for rip current doechltd today Development Today at the jersey beaches leading to waters that you should not be getting in to. Look at radar and satellite, a clear picture across the entire region and that includes right throughout the delaware valley. Today a mostly sunny picture. We have a nice forecast. 72 the high in center city and lansda lansdale. 68 for cooks town. Wilmington, low 70s for highs today with mostly sunny conditions. Light breezy conditions as well.
